Ate: A word of praise or admiration, similar to “You nailed it.”
- Example: “I love her dress. She ate!”
Based: Used to express agreement or approval, particularly when discussing political opinions.
- Example: “Bro is totally based, just ask him about his thoughts on minimum wage.”
Basic: Mainstream, played-out, predictable, unoriginal.

Brainrot: A state of being where someone is too online and out of touch with the real world.

Bussin’: Excellent or particularly good, especially with regards to food.

Cap: To lie about something.

Delulu: Short for delusional, as in “out of touch.”
- Example: “Only delulu people think they’re the center of the universe.”
Girlboss: A woman who gets ahead at the detriment of other people or women.
- Example: “She’s a girlboss who was only promoted because she popped the assistant manager’s tires on interview day.”
Glaze: Overhyped, overrated.
- Example: “I think that Michelin-star restaurant is totally glazed.”
GOAT: Stands for Greatest of all Time. Used as praise.
- Example: “Lebron is the basketball GOAT.”
Ick: Something that turns you off, especially when dating.
- Example: “Biting your fingernails gives me the ick.”
Iykyk: Stands for “If you know, you know.” Used to signal an in-joke or exclusive reference.
- Example: “I won’t say where I got this incredible taco. Iykyk.”
Main character: Someone who’s fully in control of their own life, like the protagonist of a story.
- Example: “Every time I enter the room I pretend I’m the main character.”
Mid: Middling, average, underwhelming.
- Example: “Nah, that taco is super mid. I’ve had better.”
Opp: Opposition or opponent. Used to refer to one’s enemies.
- Example: “Don’t be my taco’s opp, dude. It’s a good taco.”
Rizz: Short for “charisma.” A certain quality or charm that helps with romantic success.
- Example: “I’ve got enough rizz to go home with anyone I like.”
Roman Empire: A seemingly insignificant or trivial topic or subject that you can’t stop thinking about or obsessing over.
- Example: “Do you remember Tamagotchis? I stayed up for hours last night researching them. They’re my Roman Empire.”
Slaps: Good or outstanding, especially when referring to music.
- Example: “This. Taco. Slaps.”
Stan: Portmanteau of “stalker” and “fan.” Used to discuss obsessive fans of something or someone.
- Example: “You could say I’m a stan of that taco truck. I stan their tacos.”
Sus: Short for “suspicious.”
- Example: “I don’t know, dude. I heard they use ostrich meat in their ground beef. It’s pretty sus.”
Touch grass: A phrase used to say that somebody needs to step away from the computer and reconnect with reality.
- Example: “You’ve just been reading too many conspiracy theories online. Go touch grass.”
