What Should You Know About Your Partner?
Whether you’ve just started dating or are in a long-term relationship, it’s important to know a few things about your partner that are more than their favorite things and interests. You’ll likely learn these things the longer you’re with them; however, there’s no harm in asking them directly about it (especially if you’re curious and want a committed relationship). Here’s what you should know about your partner to grow a strong relationship and establish healthy boundaries:
- What their hopes are for the relationship (marriage, friends with benefits, etc.)
- What their love language is
- What their daily routine looks like
- What they look for in a partner
- What their relationships with their friends and family are like
- What are their personal and professional goals
- What their political and spiritual beliefs are
- What past relationships they’ve had
- How they process emotional situations
- How they feel about marriage
- Where they are financially
- If they have any medical needs
- How they picture their future
Keep in mind that you don’t need to know all of these things right away. For instance, you might not want to bring up the topic of kids or marriage on the first date. Go at a gradual pace, and ask what feels right in the moment.
